Report
on the Astrophilatelic Activities in Italy 2013
The year
started with the organization of the competitive astrophilately exhibition,
held in Milan in March, according to the FIP rules. Out of the nine exhibits,
five were participating for the first time, with a strong commitment that
brought to remarkable results.
The 50th anniversary of Valentina
Tereskova, was commemorated with an event which included a conference, as outreach
of the 8th IAA Symposium (International Astronautics Academy) held in Turin, and
an exhibition which remained open during the three-days Symposium.
The Conference and the Expert Panel
which followed were entirely held by outstanding personalities, all of them women, from the space
industry, space agencies and academic world.
The Exhibition grouped half a dozen
of documentary and philatelic collections on Valentina Tereshkova and an
Exhibit on WOMEN IN SPACE which illustrated, with panels designed by the stamp
Artist Alec Bartos, the missions of the 58 women flown in space during the past
fifty years.
A special postmark and an official
postcard prepared by ASITAF were available during the Event.
The exhibition was again in show during
VeronaFil in November.
A dozen
of commemorative covers were issued by ASITAF for space events dealing with
Italy, such as the launch of Vega, ATV and Cygnus, the test of IXV and Exomars,
etc.
Two
competitive astrophilately exhibitions will be organized in 2014, offering
exhibitors the opportunity to qualify for the International Astrophilately
Exhibition to be held in Milan in 2015.
The first
Astrophilately Seminar in Italy will be held in March 2014 in Milan.
Four
annual issues of the "AD*ASTRA” quarterly Journal are being published in
Italian and English and provide members with background information on space
events and astrophilately.
The
website www.asitaf.it is available both in Italian and English. Umberto Cavallaro
