FIP section for Astrophilately.
Meetings in January.
In January 2011 the following informal meetings of the Bureau members of the FIP Section for Astrophilately took place.
Jaromir Matejka, Secretary and Julius Cacka, Bureau member discussed different questions concerning Astrophilately during their meeting in Vienna.

Japan launched a spacecraft to the ISS.
On January 22, 2011 at 05:37 UTC Japan successfully launched the H-2B rocket-carrier from Launch Pad No. 2 at the Tanegashima Space Center, an island base at the southern tip of Japan.
The rocket orbited HTV-2 unmanned supply spacecraft. Japan is calling the spacecraft Kounotori, which means white stork.

The spacecraft is to deliver about 5300 kilograms of supplies to stock the International Space Station with scientific gear, spare parts and provisions for the lab's six-person crew. The HTV-2 is to approach the ISS on January 27. Ast ... Read more »

Russian cosmonauts completed spacewalk ahead of schedule.
On January 21, 2011 Russian cosmonauts Dmitry Kondratyev and Oleg Skripochka performed the first spacewalk in this year.
The cosmonauts spent in space 5 hours and 22 minutes instead of 6 hours in according to the plan. The space walkers successfully completed all tasks required of them during their spacewalk ahead of schedule.
