Ariane orbited 2 satellites.
On August 6, 2011 at 22:52 UTC the Ariane-5ECA rocket-carrier was launched from the launch site in Kourou, French Guiana on northeast coast of South America.
The rocket orbited 2 telecommunication satellites.
The "ASTRA-1N” spacecraft, a satellite for European operator SES ASTRA, will be initially positioned in geosynchronous orbit at 28.2 degrees east longitude to serve the United Kingdom and Ireland. Then the satellite will move to a permanent location at 19.2 degrees east for the bulk of its 15-year service life. From its second position, the "ASTRA-1N” will provide direct-to-home digital and high-definition television broadcasting to Germany, France and Spain. SES ASTRA, the craft's operator, is based in Luxembourg.

The US launched Juno spacecraft to Jupiter.
On August 05, 2011 at 16:25 UTC the Atlas-5 rocket-carrier was launched by United Launch Alliance from launch complex 41 at the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station.

The rocket orbited NASA's solar-powered Juno space probe on a five-year voyage to Jupiter.
The Atlas 5 is not powerful enough to fling the spacecraft directly to its target. Instead, Juno will fly out past the orbit of Mars and then use on-board propulsion in September 2012 to drop back into the inner solar system for a velocity-boosting ... Read more »

Russian cosmonauts performed EVA.
On August 03, 2011 two Russian cosmonauts, Sergey Volkov and Aleksandr Samokutyaev performed a 6 hour and 22 minute spacewalk.
They carried out a manual launch of a mini-satellite and installed new stream video equipment on the station's outer surface.
The launch of the Kedr mini-satellite, designed to transmit greeting messages in 17 languages, Earth photos and telemetry data from its service systems, was delayed after the cosmonauts discovered that one of its two antennas was missing, but they nevertheless launched the satellite with only one antenna.
The cosmonauts also installed three containers with microorganisms and mushroom spores on the "Pirs” docking compartment to study their influence on materials used in spacecraft construction. ... Read more »

Russia launched a radio telescope.
On July 18, 2011 at 02:31 UTC the "Zenith-3M” rocket-carrier equipped with the Fregat-SB upper stage was launched by Russian and Ukrainian teams from Baykonur Cosmodrome.
The rocket orbited the Russian "RadioAstron” ("Spektr-R” - Spectrum-R) astrophysical observatory.
The Spektr-R satellite is one element of an international network of observatories in a project called RadioAstron. When linked with ground-based telescopes across the globe, Spektr-R will facilitate unprecedented views into black holes that form the centers of galaxies and will help astronomers see deeper into supermassive black holes, obtain views of collapsed stars and better measure the influence of dark energy on the cosmos.
The Astro Space Center is coordinating the Spektr-R mi ... Read more »
