Administrator of this website and the Chairman of the FIP Section for Astrophilately would like to congratulate all Astrophilately-collectors and space thematic collector with the Cosmonautics Day.
49 years ago on April 12, 1961 Yuri Gagarin performed the first world manned space flight.
Cosmonautics Day is a holiday celebrated (mainly in Russia) every April 12 to commemorate the first manned spaceflight.

STS-131 / ISS - the 2nd EVA.
On April 11, 2010 American astronauts STS-131 Mission Specialists Richard Mastracchio and Clayton Anderson completed a seven-hour and 26-minute spacewalk.

STS-131 / ISS the 1st EVA.
On April 09, 2010 American astronauts Clayton Anderson and Richard Mastracchio performed the first of three planned spacewalks.
They configured an old Ammonia Tank Assembly (ATA) for removal and prepared a new ATA for installation. On the center-most portion of the station’s backbone, they replaced a Rate Gyro Assembly, part of the station’s navigation system.
The spacewalk lasted 6 hours and 27 minutes.

CryoSat-2 satellite launch.
On April 09, 2010 at 13:57 UTC a Russian "Dnepr” rocket-carrier orbited the "CryoSat-2” European Space Agency's satellite.
The satellite will monitor the effects of global warming on polar glaciers. The 140 million euro satellite, CryoSat-1, was built by the space company EADS Astrium for the European Space Agency.

STS-131 / ISS docking.
On April 07, 2010 Space shuttle Discovery (STS-131 flight) docked with the International Space Station at 07:44 UTC.
Discovery delivered to the station new science racks and ammonia tanks. While there, two shuttle astronauts will perform three spacewalks to switch out ammonia tanks on the station.
In the photo: the station's robotic Canadarm2 grapples the Leonardo Multi-purpose Logistics Module (MPLM) from the payload bay of the docked space shuttle Discovery (STS-131) for relocation to a port on the Harmony node of the International Space Station.

STS-131 launch.
On April 05, 2010 at 10:21 UTC the "Discovery” American Space Shuttle (STS-131 flight) was launched from Kennedy Space Center, Florida, USA.
The shuttle Discovery carries a crew of seven and 10 tons of supplies and equipment bound for the International Space Station.

Russian cosmonaut Vitaliy Sevastjanov passed away.
Twice Hero of the Soviet Union, he had many other awards and medals.
He graduated from the Moscow Aviation Institute in 1959 and joined Sergey Korolev's design bureau, where he worked on the design of the Vostok spacecraft. He also lectured at the Cosmonaut Training Centre, teaching the physics of spaceflight. In 1967 he commenced cosmonaut training himself.
After two successful missions, including a two-month stay aboard the Salyut 4 space station, he was stood down from active flight status in 1976. He worked in ground control for the Salyut 6 station before returning to spacecraft design in the 1980s to work on the Buran project.

Soyuz TMA-18 / ISS docking.
On April 04, 2010 at 05:24 UTC the Soyuz TMA-18 spacecraft completed a smooth docking with the International Space Station boosting the station's crew from three to six.
With commander Alexander Skvortsov monitoring a problem-free, automated approach, the Soyuz TMA-18 docked to the Station's new Poisk module.
After extensive leak checks, hatches were opened at 3:19 a.m. and Skvortsov, flight engineer Mikhail Kornienko and NASA astronaut Tracy Caldwell Dyson were welcomed aboard by Expedition 23 commander Oleg Kotov, Soichi Noguchi and Timothy Creamer. Soyuz TMA-18 launch.
On April 02, 2010 the Soyuz TMA-18 spacecraft was launched for the International Space Station from Russia's Baykonur Cosmodrome at 04:43 UTC.

The spacecraft will deliver members of ISS Expedition 23 - Russian cosmonauts Alexander Skvortsov and Mikhail Kornijenko and U.S. astronaut Tracy Caldwell Dyson - to the orbital station on April 4.
The Soyuz TMA-18 mission is the 105th flight of a Soyuz spacecraft since the start of the program in 1967.

Space Mail from U.A.E. to the ISS.
This letter was written at the Central Post Office in Dubai, U.A.E on August 25, 2009.
It was addressed to Russian cosmonaut Roman Romanenko to the International Space Station. On October 2, 2009 the letter was delivered to the addressee by the Russian Soyuz TMA-16 spacecraft.
