India launched a rover to the moon.
15:07

On July 22, 2019 at 09:13 UTC the GSLV Mk.III rocket-carrier was launched from Sriharikota spaceport, 80 km from Chennai, India. The rocket (GSLV - Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle) orbited the “Chandrayaan-2” automatic spacecraft. The “Chandrayaan-2” is an ambitious robotic lunar mission targeting a touchdown near the lunar south pole on September 6. The landing module is named “Vikram” for Vikram Sarabhai, the father of India’s space program, and after touchdown will deploy the “Pragyan” rover, named for the Sanskrit word for “wisdom.”
