Soviet-era rocket orbited South Korean satellite.
14:52

On August 22, 2013 at 14:39 UTC the Russian "Dnepr” rocket-carrier was launched from a space base near Yasny, a small community in the Orenburg region in the southern part of Russia.
The rocket launched out of an underground silo (vertical cylindrical container for the storage and launching of intercontinental ballistic missiles) orbited the South Korean "KompSat-5” (Arirang-5) observing satellite.
The three-stage "Dnepr” rocket-carrier is derived from an SS-18 missile built to carry Russian nuclear weapons.
The "KompSat-5” satellite is designed for a five-year mission to collect high-resolution imagery to aid urban planners, emergency responders and environmental scientists.
