US launched a military satellite.
19:25
On May 7, 2011 at 18:10 UTC the Atlas-5 / 401 (AV-022) rocket-carrier was launched by United Launch Alliance from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Florida, USA. The rocket orbited SBIRS GEO-1 (Space Based Infrared System Geosynchronous) satellite. SBIRS GEO-1 was built by Lockheed Martin using the company's commercial A2100 satellite design with a 12-year mission life. Valued at more than $1.2 billion, this satellite begins the next era for warning spacecraft that continuously monitor the globe to alert the national leadership and battlefield commanders of missile launches.
