China launched a mapping satellite.
On August 24, 2010 at 07:10 UTC the Chang Zheng-2D (Long March 2D) rocket-carrier was launched from the Jiuquan launching base near the border of northern China's Inner Mongolia and Gansu provinces. The rocket orbited the Tianhui 1 satellite.
Authorities will use Tianhui 1 for scientific research, mapping and land resource surveys to help promote economic development, according to a statement on the Chinese Ministry of Defense website.

The 50th Anniversary of Belka and Strelka flight.
50 years ago Belka and Strelka were two dogs who were onboard the Sputnik-5 spacecraft when it broke into orbit on August 19, 1960, circled the Earth 17 times and returned home.

Accompanying them were two lab rats and forty mice, as well as a life support system, instruments and other equipment.
Before the first human launch was approved, two spacecraft with a dog and a mannequin onboard had been sent into orbit. Their missions were almost exactly the same as that of Yury Gagarin. ISS – EVA.
On August 16, 2010 American astronauts Douglas Wheelock and Tracy Caldwell Dyson completed the third contingency spacewalk to install a spare ammonia pump module on the S1 Truss.
Flight Engineer Shannon Walker assisted the spacewalkers from inside the International Space Station and operated the Canadarm2. Flight Engineers Wheelock and Caldwell Dyson were outside during the third repair spacewalk for 7 hours and 20 minutes.
