On July 9, 2012 at 18:38 UTC the "Proton-M” rocket-carrier with the "Briz-M” booster was launched from Baykonur Cosmodrome.
The rocket orbited SES-5 (Sirius-5) telecommunication satellite.
The SES-5, built by American company Space Systems/Loral for the Dutch operator SES World Skies, was designed to provide various satellite services to customers in Africa, Middle East and Europe. The satellite has a life span of 15 years.
