The Russian GLONASS Global Navigation Satellite System – operated by the Russian Aerospace Defence Forces – is currently the only global alternative to the American GPS fleet in operation that has global coverage of comparable precision. The Russian Defense Ministry designed the new satellite “Kosmos-2534”, using the Russian military’s catch-all naming scheme for defense and intelligence spacecraft.

The launch was performed by the "SpaceX” private company supported by the 45th Space Wing of US Air Force. The rocket orbited 60 “Starlink” satellites. The “Starlink” is a satellite constellation development project underway by US “SpaceX” company. The 60 small satellites will be joined by hundreds more “Starlink” spacecraft over the next year to fill out the network’s preliminary constellation. The “SpaceX” says that thousands of Starlink satellites may be launched to provide high-speed Internet services to consumers around the world.
