China launched a meteorological satellite.
17:41
On January 13, 2012 at 00:56 UTC the "Chang Zheng-3A” (Long March) rocket-carrier was launched from Xichang Satellite Launch Center in southwest China's Sichuan Province. The rocket orbited the "FengYun-2F” meteorological satellite.
Capable of providing continuous meteorological monitoring and sending maritime and water resource data, the satellite is expected to play an important role in weather forecasting and disaster reduction. Developed and produced by the Shanghai Academy of Spaceflight Technology, a subsidiary of the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC), the orbiter will collect data for the China Meteorological Administration.
The Long March 3A rocket is a product of the China Academy of Launch Vehicle Technology, another CASC subsidiary. It was the 157th launch of a Long March rocket.
