Russia launched navigation satellite.
18:52

On May 29, 2016 at 08:45 UTC the “Soyuz-2.1b” rocket-carrier was launched from Plesetsk Cosmodrome, Arkhangelsk region, North Russia. The launch was performed by Russian Aerospace Defence Forces. The rocket equipped with the “Fregat” upper stage orbited the Russia “Glonass-M” navigation satellite. The satellite is beginning a seven-year service life broadcasting navigation signals worldwide for the Russian military and civilian users. The Glonass program is Russia’s analog to the U.S. military’s Global Positioning System, providing precise position and time information to users equipped with receivers on the ground.
