On January
14, 2010 Russian
cosmonauts Oleg Kotov and Maksim Surayev performed this year's first spacewalk. Wearing
Orlan-MK computerized spacesuits, the Russians connected cables between the
Poisk and Zvezda modules, installed docking targets and Kurs aerials and
attached additional handrails to exit hatches.
They also
had to remove the Biorisk-MSN experiment container from the exterior of the
ISS.
The
container was in position for 30 months and will be returned to Earth in the
spring to allow scientists to study the effects of space flight on
microorganisms as part of research into the problems of ecological safety and
planetary quarantine.
The EVA
lasted 5 hours and 44 minutes. Attachments: |
