On September 17, 2009 the Canadian Nimiq 5 commercial communications satellite was shot into space from the Russian Baykonur Cosmodrome at 19:19 UTC to serve customers across the United States who subscribe to the DISH Network.
The Nimiq 5 spacecraft was launched with the Russian heavy-lift “Proton” rocket-carrier.
The liftoff came just three hours after a "Soys - 2.1b" rocket-carrier departed Baykonur carrying a Russian weather satellite. Nimiq 5 is a large, state-of-the-art satellite built by Space Systems/Loral for operator Telesat of Ottawa, Canada. Attachments: |
