India launched interplanetary probe to Mars.
On November 05, 2013 at 09:08 UTC the "Mangalyaan” interplanetary probe was launched from the Satish Dhawan Space Center, India's spaceport on Sriharikota Island about 50 miles north of Chennai. The interplanetary spacecraft was orbited by the PSLV C-25 (Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle) rocket-carrier. The "Mangalyaan” means "Mars craft" in Hindi.
The 1,337 kg interplanetary probe will study Martian surface, atmosphere and mineralogy. The "Mangalyaan” is expected to reach the Red Planet's orbit in September 2014, according to scientists from state-owned Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). If all goes well and the mission reaches the Red Planet's orbit, then ISRO will become the world's fourth space agency, after those of Russia, the USA and Europe to undertake a successful Mars mission.
