China launched a navigation satellite.
On February 24, 2012 at 16:12 UTC the Chang Zheng-3C (Long March-3C) rocket-carrier was launched from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in the southwestern Sichuan Province, China. The rocket orbited the "Beidou DW 11” navigation satellite. It is the 11th satellite of its indigenous global navigation and positioning network known as Beidou, or Compass system.
It was also the 158th launch of the Long March carrier rockets.

Russian cosmonauts performed a spacewalk.
On February 16, 2012 at 14:31 UTC two Russian cosmonauts Oleg Kononenko and Anton Shkaplerov began their spacewalk. They spent 6 hours and 15 minutes outside the International Space Station to move a14-meter crane from the "Pirs” docking module to the "Poisk” scientific module (MIM-2). The space walkers also performed scientific experiments under "Test” and "Vynoslivost” (Endurance) programs. It was the first extravehicular activity (EVA) for the ISS crew this year.

Russia launched a Dutch Satellite.
On February 14, 2012 at 19:36 UTC the Russian "Proton-M” rocket-carrier was launched from Baykonur Cosmodrome. The rocket equipped with the "Briz-M” upper stage orbited the Dutch SES-4 (NSS-14) telecommunication satellite.
The blastoff was the 70th commercial launch of a Proton carrier rocket since 1995 under contracts concluded by International Launch Services Inc. (ILS).
The SES-4 is the largest and most powerful in the group of SES satellites, built by U.S. company Space Systems/Loral for the Dutch operator SES World Skies, which is now a subsidiary of Luxemburg-based SES S.A. It was designed to provide various satellite services to customers in the Middle East, Europe, Africa and Latin America. The 5.8-ton satellite has a life span of 15 years.

The first launch of “Vega” rocket.
On February 13, 2012 at 10:00 UTC the first "Vega” rocket was launched from the Kourou spaceport in French Guiana, successfully injecting nine satellites into orbit and inaugurating a new capability in Europe's growing launcher family.
The payload consisted of two Italian satellites - ASI’s LARES laser relativity satellite and the University of Bologna’s ALMASat-1 - as well as seven picosatellites provided by European universities: e-Star (Italy), Goliat (Romania), MaSat-1 (Hungary), PW-Sat (Poland), Robusta (France), UniCubeSat GG (Italy) and Xatcobeo (Spain).
Vega is compatible with payload masses ranging from 300 kg to 2,500 kg, depending on the type and altitude of the orbit required by the customers. Arianespace started work on the vehicle in 2003 with ELV SpA (Italy) being the lead manufacturer. ... Read more »

Iran launched a satellite.
On February 2, 2012 at 23:30 UTC the "Navid” (Harbinger) observation satellite was launched by a two-stage "Safir” rocket from a military base in northern Iran. The domestically-built Navid (Harbinger) satellite is designed to take pictures of the Earth at low altitudes of 250 to 370 kilometers. The "Navid” satellite is the largest and heaviest spacecraft orbited by Iran so far.
The country launched its first satellite, Omid (Hope), in 2009.

Russian Progress M-14M spacecraft docked to ISS.
On January 28, 2012 at 00:08 UTC the Russian "Progress M-14M” unmanned supply spacecraft docked with the International Space Station (ISS). The space vehicle was docked to the Russian "Pirs” (pier) module. The Progress delivered over 2600 kilograms of supplies to the ISS crew. The cargo includes fuel, water and food supplies, as well as scientific equipment.
With a record of more than 130 launches since 1978 and only one failure, Progress-family vehicles remain the backbone of the Russian space cargo fleet. In addition to their main mission as supply space vehicles, they are used to adjust the ISS's orbit and to conduct scientific experiments.

Russia launched Progress M-14M spacecraft.
On January 25, 2012 at 23:06 UTC (on January 26 at 03:06 Moscow time) the Progress M-14M unmanned supply spacecraft was launched toward the International Space Station (ISS) from Baykonur Cosmodrome. The spacecraft will deliver over 2.6 tons of supplies to the ISS. The cargo includes fuel, water and food supplies, as well as scientific equipment.
The Progress is to dock with the ISS on January 28 at about 00:09 UTC.

China opened Space Post Office.
On November 3, 2011 to celebrate the docking of the Shenzhou-8 unmanned spacecraft with the "Tiangong-1” space lab module, China Post authority opened a new branch office outside the country and out of this world -- 343 kilometers above the Earth, to be exact.
Opening for business on the same day, the China Post Space Office has two venues -- one on-the-ground base inside the Beijing Aerospace Command and Control Center (BACCC) and one "virtual office" aboard the Shenzhou-8 spacecraft.
There is also a new designated post code -- 901001.
